WHY TRANSFER A RECORD OR TO CD?
Most albums have not been released on CD, and never will be.
Makes a great gift.
Start enjoying your music on your Ipod, in your car, or while your working out
at the gym. Records can only be enjoyed in your home.
Added track points allow easy navigation from song to song.
Records and tapes deteriorate over time. Preserve your music before it's too
late!
It's cheap. Check prices.

IS IT LEGAL?
Absolutely. Making copies of copyrighted audio material is covered under the
Fair Use provision in Section 107 of the US Copyright Law. As long as you own the record or tape, and you don't plan on selling the resulting CD, it's perfectly legal. It's also legal for a 3rd party (like us) to make the conversion for you. For example, "ripping" an audio CD (that is, making an MP3-format version of an audio CD that you already own) is considered fair use, based on the 1984 Betamax decision and the 1999 Rio MP3 player decision (RIAA v. Diamond Multimedia, 180 F. 3d 1072, 1079, 9th Circ. 1999.). For more information on the Fair Use provisions of US Copyright law, visit the Stanford University Law Fair Use Resource page here. |

CAN I GET A QUOTE WITHOUT ORDERING?
Absolutely, just email us.

|
CAN YOU MAKE COMPILATION CD'S?
We can do a compilation CD from multiple albums. The price is the same as a
single album, but add $5 for each extra album in the compilation. |
|
WILL YOU RESPECT MY PRIVACY?
Your personal information, including your e-mail address, is never sold or
distributed. |
|
CAN YOU ELIMINATE EVERY SINGLE POP?
Yes, but it would cost you $5,000. There are many thousands of pops and
clicks on each recording, and most of our processes are automated to look for the sonic "signature" of a pop that allows us to isolate and remove them without examining each one individually. The processes we use produce dramatic results that are satisfactory for most listeners - listen to samples. If you have a cherished 50 year-old record that you want to make sound like it was just released on CD, we suggest you take it to a professional audio restoration studio, not a budget conversion house like us. You may be able to get it for slightly less than $5K. A company called LP2CD offers professional restoration services at $75/hr, and believe me, a full album would take many hours. |
|
CAN YOU ELIMINATE SKIPS?
The best we can do is cut out the annoying sound of a skip, but the audio
originally lost in the skip will remain lost. Sometimes our cleaning process will help a skip, but it's not guaranteed. |
|
HOW MANY SONGS FIT ON ONE CD?
That, of course, depends on the length of the songs. Typically, a CD should
hold 15-18 songs maximum and should not exceed a total of 74 minutes. A single album will usually fit on a single CD. If it doesn't, we'll either put it on 2 CD's (no extra charge, or remove a song or two of your choosing. |
|
CAN I DELIVER AND PICK UP MY ORDER TO AVOID SHIPPING COSTS?
Yes. Hand deliveries and pick-ups are available by appointment only. Please
email us to set up an appointment. |
|
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
We're a pretty small operation, so our work load and the size of your project
usually dictates how long the process takes. A typical project takes a week, plus another few days to ship. |
|
LIABILITY
Masters Audio Video is not liable for records or tapes lost or damaged during
shipping, so pack them very carefully, or better yet have them professionally packaged. Be sure to ship with insurance and delivery confirmation. We take very good care of your records and tapes, and we carefully pack them for return shipment. For more information on shipping, click here. |
|
WHAT KIND OF SOUND QUALITY CAN I EXPECT?
Play a sample. You can expect sound quality that is very good in terms of
reduced noise, pops, and crackle. Each recording is individually analyzed, and we balance the fidelity of the sound with the aggressiveness of the noise reduction. The result is almost always pleasing. We take multiple samples of the background noise and crackle from between the tracks on each record, then we develop a noise reduction profile based on that sample, and finally we apply the noise reduction to the entire record. Quality is usually higher than most people expect. For a more detailed and technical description of the restoration process, click here.
