Greetings everyone! My name is Babak, and I'll be socketing your PROM today. This is going to be a very simple and straight forward page written in notepad offering four very specific items with no fluff, and no BS. Any questions that aren't answered here, and there shouldn't many, may be sent to sapprom@brokenpixel.net. Inquiries for software support will not be answered. On with the show.

Shipping and Liability

All services are usually completed within 1 business day of receipt, but in rare cases may take up to 3.

In regards to TiVo units sent to me for service, keep in mind that you are fully responsible for properly packing your TiVo. Your box must withstand TWO trips through the courier, and must include a prepaid return label. Please write down all tracking numbers before shipment. It is your responsibility to insure and track your package.

If you send me a complete working TiVo unit, you will receive a complete working TiVo unit back. I will test it before and after the service to ensure integrity. If you send me just the motherboard to save on shipping, I WILL NOT be able to test the unit, and I cannot guarantee functionality.

Software Support

There is none. I will not hack your hard drive for you, or walk you through how to do so. This is a hardware service only, and serves to help out the people who know or are willing to learn the software, but do not have access to the appropriate tools.

 

Standard PROM Service - $60USD

If you generously donate 6,000 copper discs to my cargo pocket I will professionally remove, socket, and install a new PROM in your TiVo unit. You will receive a properly serviced TiVo along with your original PROM chip. I don't take any shortcuts here, folks. The socket is not modified or clipped in any way during installation so your PROM won't bottom out against the pins, and all flux is properly cleaned and removed from the board to prevent corrosion.

If you're lazy enough to chuck 3/4 of a Benjamin at me, I'll not only socket your PROM as outlined above, but I will also install and mount the S3 serial console jack. The "Serial" label displayed in the above picture will be applied before installation and the jack will be installed securely above the HDMI port on the back panel.

The PROM is placed in the socket and sealed in rigid plastic before being placed in the ESD bag for protection during transit.

DIY Series3 Serial Console Cable (Free USPS First Class w/ Delivery Confirmation ) - $13USD

This cable plugs into the onboard 3-pin header on a Series3 unit to yield serial console access via the TiVo serial cable. The cable is assembled from scratch and only with brand new parts. It consists of a standard 3-pin MOLEX brand header connected to a high quality 3.5mm Kubiconn stereo jack. As you can see, the cable also comes with a nice looking transparent "Serial" sticker to put on the back panel before installation. To help focus your mod-chi, there is a small hash mark in the very center to mark the drill point.
